Healthy Teeth

Multiple services may be required in order to achieve healthy teeth. The teeth can decay, crack, break, wear, erode, be sensitive, have traumatic injuries, be impacted or even missing. A complete set of healthy functional teeth is our goal and to do this we have a variety of treatments.

List of services:

  • Tooth-colored or White Fillings
  • Crowns or Caps
  • Sealants
  • Replacement Teeth Options

Tooth Colored or White Fillings

Our office only uses tooth colored filling material. We do not use amalgam or silver fillings. Virtually undetectable, these fillings not only match the color of your teeth but are also very durable. The tooth colored fillings are mainly for smaller areas of decay, chips or abrasion. Composite is a superior restorative material because of its more desireable properties for your overall health, no swelling with age, and flexible ability to be repaired without removing the entire restoration. Also, composite is bonded to the tooth so it is substancially more supportive of the remaining tooth structure versus amalgam.

Crowns or Caps

When a larger part of the tooth is damaged from decay, fractures or cracks a crown or cap may be recommended. There are several types of beautiful and functional crowns that can be provided depending on the specific situation. Crowns are used to restore a tooth that has fractured or is likely to fracture, often due to extensive decay, large fillings, heavy wear, or stress fractures. Most crowns cover the entire tooth to the gum line, and can be fabricated from porcelain, porcelain and metal blends, or gold. Modern crowns are as strong as an unrestored tooth, and they wear at the same rate as the natural tooth structure. The team at Reich Dental Center Roswell always recommends the use of a high quality dental laboratory that will customize your crowns to your needs. Quality restorations can last decades. This isn't an area where corners should be cut.

Sealants

Another preventative procedure we recommend to prevent decay in the grooves of teeth is sealants. A sealant is a plastic resin material that is applied to the chewing surfaces of the back teeth, premolars and molars. Sealants protect teeth by "sealing out" plaque and food. To avoid cavities developing over time a coating is applied into the grooves and pits, making it possible to brush off all the plaque and keep your teeth healthy. The likelihood of developing decay begins early in life, so children are obvious candidates. But adults can benefit from sealants as well.

Replacement Teeth Options

All of your teeth function together to help you smile, chew and speak. Tooth loss can cause shifting, premature aging and functional difficulties. To avoid these situations, missing teeth should be replaced. Choosing the right replacement option for you is a very important decision.

1. Fixed Bridge - A fixed bridge replaces one or more missing teeth. The teeth adjacent to the "gap" are prepared, the custom-made bridge fabricated and then cemented into place. The advantages are that a bridge looks and functions like natural teeth and you do not remove it for cleaning. The disadvantages are that the adjoining teeth are affected and bridges can be more expensive then removable teeth options.

2. Implants - an implant is a metal post that is surgically placed below the gum into the bone. After a healing period a post and crown are placed on the implant. Implants are similar to your natural teeth and do not involve preparing the adjacent teeth. Implants are not for everyone or every situation. They can take months for completion and are the most expensive tooth replacement option.

3. Removable Partial Dentures or Complete Dentures - There are many different options for removable appliances which are generally less expensive. However they can be less stable, can break, or may be uncomfortable. They must also be removed after meals and at night for cleaning.

It is best to explore all of your tooth replacement options and, with our help, make the decision that is right for you!
